Ty Dolla $ign Mourns The Loss Of His Grandmother On IG

On Instagram this morning, Ty Dolla $ign revealed that his grandmother had tragically passed away. The rapper-singer posted an emotional message in her honor. Hot New Hip Hop picked up on the artist’s post earlier today.

You can check out the artist’s post below:

At the moment, it’s not entirely clear why his grandmother died, and whether or not it was related to COVID-19. Either way, it’s an unfortunate situation for the performing artist, who came upon hard times in September of 2018 after he was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia.

Ron Collins picked up on a report from TMZ  stating that authorities apprehended him for drug possession, although, it was never revealed immediately. The Shade Room shared a video on their Instagram which featured video footage of the artist’s arrest.

TMZ went on to report, however, that he may have been apprehended on account of marijuana and cocaine possession. Witnesses claim Ty and his friends were pulled over outside of a cafe, and he was charged with having less than an ounce of both drugs.

The rapper was with six of his friends. On social media, the reactions were not that forgiving or understanding. One person asked if there was ever going to be a time when rappers realized that it’s not wise to carry around illegal narcotics in their car.

The same commenter added, “those nostrils always looked coked up to me. He looks like he uses it.” Another social media user claimed it was racist for the police and the justice system to prosecute those who have a drug problem.

The commenter pointed out the purported irony of the “world stopping” when white celebrities die from drug overdoses, but the same isn’t true for black people. However, it’s not uncommon for rappers’ deaths to be widely publicized either, even from drug overdoses.

Last year, it was revealed that Juice WRLD passed away in a Chicago airport. He died from a lethal combination of oxycodone and codeine. Many in the hip-hop community came out to commemorate the fallen singer.
