Prince William & Kate Middleton Celebrate Their 9th Wedding Anniversary With Social Media Post Amid COVID-19 Lockdown
Even though they had one of the most-watched weddings in royal history, Prince William and Kate Middleton usually keep their anniversary celebrations private and low-key. Still, this year was a little different because the couple is in isolation at their country home, Anmer Hall in Norfolk, with their three children: Prince George, 6, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 2.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge tied the knot on April 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey in front of millions of TV and online viewers around the world. For the event, Middleton wore an Alexander McQueen gown and Princess Diana’s iconic sapphire and diamond engagement ring, while Prince William was in his red Irish Guards Mounted Officer’s uniform.
As fans know, the couple met when they were students at the University of St. Andrews and they dated off and on for nearly a decade before they became husband and wife.
To celebrate the day, the royal couple posted a gorgeous photo from their wedding on Instagram and included a brief message in the caption.
“Nine years ago today — thank you for all your lovely messages on The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding anniversary!” read the caption on the Kensington Royal Instagram page.
Because of the lockdown and social distancing orders in the UK, Prince William and Kate Middleton have been carrying out their royal duties via video calls, and they’ve also been using that method to keep in touch with family.
“We’ve been talking to all the family online. And it’s been a really good way of keeping in touch and seeing each other,” William recently told the BBC. “As you can imagine, the younger generation are a little bit more tech-savvy, but only just, I think we’re getting there now. The family are getting a little bit more used to be able to contact each other and pressing the right buttons and not dropping the computer halfway through.”

Middleton added that self-isolating with the kids has had its challenges, but they are pushing through.
“It’s been ups and downs, like a lot of families self-isolating. George is much older than Louis is and things, but they are aware, I’m always surprised,” explained Kate. “And although you don’t want to scare them and make it too overwhelming, I think it is appropriate to acknowledge it in the simple ways and age-appropriate ways.”
Kate went on to marvel over her children’s stamina, and says she doesn’t know how they do it. In addition to homeschooling the older children, the Duchess says their days are filled with activities like pitching tents, taking the tents down, cooking, and baking, and it’s amazing how much they can cram into one day.
