Harvey Weinstein Reportedly Hired A ‘Prison Consultant’ Following His Conviction
A representative for Harvey Weinstein said to reporters from the New York Post that the producer hired a “prison consultant” before he heads off to the big house following his conviction earlier this week. Juda Engelmayer claimed the purported expert isn’t a psychologist but will be helping Weinstein with logistics including medical care.
According to his rep, Weinstein has been dealing with diabetes and back issues. The consultant was hired by his team as a precautionary measure, that way Weinstein gets the treatment he needs and isn’t needlessly suffering behind bars.
Arthur Aidala, who went to see his client at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan on Tuesday, claimed it was “unclear” if Weinstein will be shipped off to Riker’s Island while he awaits his sentencing on the 11th of March.
On Monday, the 67-year-old movie producer was convicted on one count of rape and one count of a criminal sex act, in other words, the producer could serve the rest of his life behind bars. The maximum sentence for the charges is 29 years.
The judge presiding over the case, Justice James Burke, refused to release the producer from bail and instead put him in jail while he awaits sentencing. Aidala claims Weinstein was taken to the hospital following his conviction due to heart palpitations and high blood pressure.
His attorney claims Weinstein is expecting to see friends and family there. According to Aidala, the ex-powerhouse producer is “enthusiastic” about his fight with the charges, and they’re looking at getting him out of jail as soon as they can.
Weinstein’s trial is easily the most high profile of 2020 yet. The producer battled against 5 counts of sexual abuse charges, all stemming from the accusations from three different women, including Jessica Mann, Mimi Haleyi, and Annabella Sciorra.
Weinstein’s conviction has been considered as a big win for the #MeToo movement, considering the accusations against him were the catalyst for the cascade of stories that began coming out at the ending of 2017, all the way up until now.
