Blue Ivy Carter Becomes Youngest Person Ever To Win An NAACP Image Award

At just eight years old, Blue Ivy Carter has won her first NAACP Image Award. The oldest daughter of Beyonce and Jay-Z took home the award on Friday for her song Brown Skin Girl, and that makes her the youngest person ever to win a major award.

Blue Ivy took home the prize for Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration along with the other featured players on the track: her mom, WizKid, and Saint JHN.

Unfortunately, the moment wasn’t captured by television cameras, as the award was announced during the non-televised dinner on Friday before the main awards ceremony on Saturday, February 22nd.

“Congratulations BLUE IVY on your NAACP award last night for singing and writing on ‘Brown Skin Girl’ from the Album The Gift,” wrote Blue Ivy’s grandma, Tina Knowles, on Instagram. “The youngest artist to win a major award. Grandma is soo proud of you 8 years old!!!! You are giving all the beautiful little brown girls a voice.”

Brown Skin Girl was Blue Ivy’s first song on the Billboard Hot 100. Back in July, it debuted at number 76 on the chart.

Beyonce pretty much dominated the music categories during the ceremony and took home a total of six awards. In addition to the award she won with Blue Ivy, Beyonce won Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation Album for The Lion King: The Gift, Outstanding Song Traditional for her single Spirit, Outstanding Album for Homecoming: The Live Experience, Outstanding Variety (Series or Special) for Beyoncé’s Homecoming, and Outstanding Female Artist.

As fans know, Beyonce and Jay-Z welcomed Blue Ivy in 2012 and five years later the Formation singer gave birth to twins Sir and Rumi. In June 2019, an insider told Us Weekly that the power couple still spends a lot of time with their kids despite their busy schedules.

The source said that Jay-Z and Beyonce have nannies for the kids, and their assistants also help out. But, as a rule they try to bring the kids with them everywhere they go. The insider added that Blue Ivy always travels with Beyonce and is with her when she is working. And, as the twins have gotten older, the singer has also started taking them with her, too.

“They’re a very tight-knit family and like to do everything together,” said the insider.
