Courtney Love Honors Kurt Cobain On What Would Have Been Their 28th Wedding Anniversary

Twenty-eight years after Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain tied the knot on Waikiki beach in Honolulu, Hawaii, she posted a loving tribute to her late husband on what would have been their 28th wedding anniversary.

The 48-year-old singer posted a throwback pic on Instagram from February 24, 1992, of her and Cobain holding bouquets on the beach in Hawaii on their wedding day. At the time, Love was pregnant with their daughter Francis Bean, and the couple had only been dating for four months.

“28 years ago. I recall feeling, deeply, delighted, dizzy, so in love, and knowing how lucky I was . This man was an angel,” wrote Love in the caption. “i thank him for looking out for me, many parts of the the last 28 years have been torturous chaotic and uphill, and in public? That is the darkest sh*t imaginable, it almost tapped my resilience, almost.”

Love added that between Cobain’s strange, amazing divinity, the honor of a few true friends, the gift of desperation and sobriety, and the higher power of love and empathy, she is here now.

During the early 1990s, Cobain and Love were one of the most famous couples in music. However, their relationship made headlines for all the wrong reasons, as they were both addicted to heroin. Cobain ended up committing suicide in April 1994 at their home in Seattle. The Nirvana frontman was only 27 years old.

“Courtney and Kurt are the nineties, much more talented version of Sid and Nancy,” a record executive told Vanity Fair in 1992. “[Courtney’s] going to be famous and [Kurt] already is, but unless something happens, they’re going to self-destruct. I know they’re both going to be big stars. I just don’t want to be a part of it.”

Love has battled addiction for decades, but she recently revealed at the NME Awards that she is sober. When Love took home the Icon Award, she told the crowd that she didn’t prepare a speech, but the award was an honor and she was celebrating it along with 18 months of sobriety.

The love has been pouring in for The People vs Larry Flynt actress since she posted her wedding pic on Instagram. Supermodel Helena Christensen wrote in the comments that the pic was an “absolute magically poetic picture of love.” And, Busy Philipps wrote that she was sending the singer love.

Courtney Love ended her post by writing that she still sees Cobain on the shore “rocking in the free world. My husband.”
