Anderson Cooper Says He Won’t Be Taking Paternity Leave After The Birth Of His Son Via Surrogate

Anderson Cooper won’t be taking a break from his job anytime soon. Fans of the news anchor know that he welcomed his child, Wyatt, into the world via surrogate earlier this year. However, the CNN reporter said he wouldn’t be taking any time off at the moment due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The 52-year-old said on The Late Show that “this is as serious as it gets,” and went on to say that it was crucial for things to be as “true and accurate” as possible. He added that it was the primary reason why he won’t be going on hiatus.

According to Cooper, the coronavirus pandemic is an “extraordinary” moment in history, and to be a journalist at this time is a unique experience. Cooper said to the host of the Late Show, Stephen Colbert, that it was crucial for him to give people the truth and the facts.

As you may know, Cooper, who’s raising his child with his ex, Benjamin Maisani, claimed that his friend, Andy Cohen, recommended a nanny to him. Cohen reportedly uses the same nanny for his own son, Benjamin.

Typically, Cooper is the one reporting on the news, however, these days, the birth of his child has made him a hot topic. For instance, on the 5th of May, Suzy Kerr reported that Cooper appeared on two different talk shows this past Monday to tell the world what it was like to be a father for the first time.

I hope I can be as good a dad as he was. My son's middle name is Morgan. It's a family name on my mom's side. I know my mom and dad liked the name morgan because I recently found a list they made 52 years ago when they were trying to think of names for me. Wyatt Morgan Cooper. My son. He was 7.2 lbs at birth, and he is sweet, and soft, and healthy and I am beyond happy. As a gay kid, I never thought it would be possible to have a child, and I’m grateful for all those who have paved the way, and for the doctors and nurses and everyone involved in my son's birth. Most of all, I am grateful to a remarkable surrogate who carried Wyatt, and watched over him lovingly, and tenderly, and gave birth to him. It is an extraordinary blessing – what she, and all surrogates give to families who cant have children. My surrogate has a beautiful family of her own, a wonderfully supportive husband, and kids, and I am incredibly thankful for all the support they have given Wyatt and me. My family is blessed to have this family in our lives I do wish my mom and dad and my brother, Carter, were alive to meet Wyatt, but I like to believe they can see him. I imagine them all together, arms around each other, smiling and laughing, happy to know that their love is alive in me and in Wyatt, and that our family continues.

According to the 52-year-old CNN anchor, his ex, Benjamin Maisani, will play a fundamental role in the rearing of his child. Cooper also stated that he’s been getting some great hand-me-down clothing from Andy Cohen, his good friend.

When he appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert earlier this year, he admitted that Benjamin was in the delivery room with him when the baby was born, and he’ll also be in the baby’s life. Cooper stated that “he’s my family,” and he wants him to be in Wyatt’s life too.

Back in March 2018, Cooper and Benjamin, the nightclub owner, split up, although, they’ve since been getting along together just fine.
