Kelly Rowland Opens Up About Feeling ‘Overshadowed’ By Beyonce – ‘I Tortured Myself For A Decade’

Kelly Rowland opened up about being overshadowed by her former Destiny’s Child bandmate for a decade! Apparently, being in Beyonce’s shadow for so long felt like ‘torture!’

Kelly Rowland felt horrible for a long time since she felt like no matter what she did in life, she would end up being compared to Beyonce.

That being said, she explained that having her own identity while in the same girl group with the superstar was really hard.

And even after Destiny’s Child disbanded, she still had to measure up to Beyonce when they became soloists and Queen Bey’s fame continued to sky-rocket!

This is what she shared with The Voice Australia contestant Chris Sebastian, dishing that she would ‘torture herself’ over all details of her image and career, including what she wore and the style of her music just to avoid being compared to Beyonce.

‘Can you imagine what it’s like being in a group with Beyoncé? I would just torture myself in my head. Like, I can’t wear this dress because they’re going to say it’s like B. Or, I can’t have a song like that because it sounds too much like B. They’re gonna compare anyways,’ she told the contestant who expressed worry over being overshadowed by his brother who won the contest in 2003.

Kelly went on: ‘I would be lying if I said ‘No, it’s never bothered me.’ That’s bull. There was a whole decade, if I am being completely honest, a decade where it was like the elephant in the room. It was the thing that would constantly be on my shoulder. This is your opportunity to carve your own path, even with him sitting in that chair down there.’

While Kelly has had quite a bit of success after Destiny’s Child, no one can really be compared to Beyonce in that category so it must have been hard.
