Kirstie Alley Warns Viewers Not To Let Their Kids Watch 13 Reasons Why

13 Reasons Why from Netflix just revealed their fourth and final season this month, however, some viewers of the popular series are just watching it for the first time. One person who fits into this category is the actress, Kirstie Alley.

Alley said on her Twitter account Monday night that 13 Reasons Why was “f*cked-up” and she doesn’t recommend any teenager watch it. The actress said it was “dark, so dark,” before going on to refer to it as featuring “non-stop f*ckedupness.”

Kirstie went on to say that it’s so dark that she doesn’t think parents should tune in either. Kirstie, when probed by one fan about how good it was, jokingly said that people between the ages of 40 and 70 should be the only people allowed to watch it.

Fans of the popular show know that Kirstie isn’t the only person to criticize the series’ subject matter. Not long after the first season of 13 Reasons Why dropped on the streaming network back in 2017, psychologists and other experts warned of the show’s effect on adolescent minds.

The president of the Child Mind Institute, Dr. Harold S. Koplewicz, said to reporters from Today at the time that the show should be taken off of Netflix immediately. He claimed, “teenage suicide” was dangerous, and when television depicts it, some kids follow suit.

Additionally, Dr. Brian P. Kurtz, an adolescent psychiatrist, said to Today that the series sparked an increase in suicidal ideation among some of their patients. This past year, Netflix revealed that they edited out a graphic suicide scene due to advice from “medical experts.”

Ironically, Netflix has garnered a reputation for themselves of being the type of platform to allow artists free reign. However, there have been some instances where the platform has had to abide by the demands of other figures, especially outside of the country.

For instance, The Patriot Act had an episode related to Saudi Arabia pulled from the series due to the demands of the foreign government, much to the host’s chagrin.
