Alexis Ohanian Resigns From Seat At Reddit And Asks To Be Replaced By A Black Candidate — Donates Money To Know Your Rights Camp

Alexis Ohanian is not just putting his money where his mouth is — he’s also putting his job in the same place. The Reddit co-founder has stepped down from his board seat at the website and asked to be replaced with a black candidate.

Many companies have been coming out with statements about supporting the Black Lives Matter movement but there are some who just don’t seem to be doing enough to make sure their place of business reflects the world around them.

Alexis, who is married to Serena Williams, is the father of a black daughter. When their daughter gets older, he will be able to tell her about what he did in the fight against racial injustice.

The super dad took to Instagram to say: ‘I co-founded @reddit 15 years ago to help people find community and a sense of belonging. It is long overdue to do the right thing. I’m doing this for me, for my family, and for my country. I’m saying this as a father who needs to be able to answer his black daughter when she asks: What did you do?’

He went on to not only reveal that he’s resigned from the company but also that he’s donated to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights foundation.

 I believe resignation can actually be an act of leadership from people in power right now. To everyone fighting to fix our broken nation: do not stop.

This is not the first, nor will it be the last time, Alexis has put his efforts into uplifting the black community. He has donated to Black Girls Code among other things.
