ViacomCBS Cuts Ties With Nick Cannon After Anti-Semitic Comments

Nick Cannon has been known to speak his mind whether it’s during an interview, a stand-up comedy routine, or a social media post. After being called out for spewing anti-Semitic ideals.

In a podcast episode of Cannon’s Class, the Wild N Out star spoke on Black people being the true Hebrews. He also referred to Jewish people as savages and animals while conversing with Public Enemy member Professor Griff.

‘You can’t be anti-Semitic when we are the Semitic people. When we are the same people they want to be. That’s our birthright.’

After an onslaught of backlash, Nick shared a lengthy response to Fast Company where he explained that the purpose of his podcast is to have the tough conversations. He made it clear tHat he wants to have more of a dialogue about it.

However, the one thing he didn’t do was apologize.

‘To me apologies are empty. Are you forcing me to say the words ‘I’m sorry’? Are you making me bow down, ’cause then again, that would be perpetuating that same rhetoric that we’re trying to get away from. What we need is healing. What we need is discussion. Correct me. I don’t tell my children to say, ‘I’m sorry.’ I want them to understand where they need to be corrected. And then that’s how we grow.’

Tuesday afternoon, ViacomCBS announced that they would be cutting ties with Nick. Viacom owns the network that his hit show Wild N Out is aired on but it is unknown what this means for the future of it.

The media conglomerate released a statement that read: ‘ViacomCBS condemns bigotry of any kind and we categorically denounce all forms of anti-Semitism. We have spoken with Nick Cannon about an episode of his podcast ‘Cannon’s Class’ on YouTube, which promoted hateful speech and spread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. While we support ongoing education and dialogue in the fight against bigotry, we are deeply troubled that Nick has failed to acknowledge or apologize for perpetuating anti-Semitism, and we are terminating our relationship with him. We are committed to doing better in our response to incidents of anti-Semitism, racism, and bigotry. ViacomCBS will have further announcements on our efforts to combat hate of all kinds.’
