Meghan Markle Begged Her Father Via Numerous Texts To Attend Her Wedding, According To New Book

The first excerpts from a new tell-all book that dishes on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit from the royal family have emerged, and they reveal that Markle sent numerous texts to her dad, Thomas Markle, begging him to attend her wedding to Prince Harry and walk her down the aisle.

In the new biography Finding Freedom, Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand write that “the night before the wedding, she sent her father one last text.”

“He did not reply,” the book says. “Sitting in a bath later that night, FaceTiming with a friend, the bride-to-be said she had left her dad a final message, adding, ‘I can’t sit up all night just pressing send.’”

The book also tells the story of the weeks leading up to Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding, including the behind-the-scenes fighting between father and daughter over his staged “candid” photos that started to appear in the UK tabloids.

“Dad, we need to know if this is true or not, because my team is going to try to stop this story running — if you are telling me it’s fake,” Meghan told her father, according to sources who spoke to the authors. “If they do that, they’re going out of their way to protect you, Dad. You’re telling me you’re being victimized, right?”

According to the book, Thomas lied to Meghan and told him that he had nothing to do with the photos, which were later revealed to be staged. The authors write that every time Meghan called her dad she told him she loved him and everything was fine.

“Just get here. We’ll have the wedding. We’ll celebrate. Don’t worry about any of this stuff. Let’s just put it behind us,’” Meghan reportedly told her dad, with the insider adding: “You want to believe the best, right?”

The book also claims that Meghan found out through a gossip website just four days before the wedding that her dad was claiming he had a heart attack from the stress and couldn’t make the trip to London.

As fans know, Thomas did not make it to the wedding, and Prince Charles walked Meghan down the aisle in his place.

“The pressure he was put under for six months before he finally cracked and started to participate,” a senior courtier told the book’s authors of Meghan’s father. “That’s what Harry’s angry about.”

Finding Freedom, Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family hits bookstores in August.
