United have been heavily linked with the 20-year-old, who has excelled at Borussia Dortmund since moving from Manchester City in 2017.
And it has emerged the England international would be keen on a move, providing one key criteria is met.
According to BILD, Sancho will only consider a move to Old Trafford this summer if the Red Devils can secure a Champions League berth.
Solskjaer's side currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, level on points with fourth-placed Leicester City - who they face on the final day of the season.
United had hoped that fifth place could have been enough to enter Europe's top competition next summer, but Manchester City's successful appeal to CAS means they will be able to take their place in the tournament for the 2020-21 campaign.
Should they secure a top-four spot in the Premier League, then it would take an offer of £109million (€120m) to convince Dortmund to part with the winger.
Due to the pandemic, the Bundesliga outfit have a financial hole of more than £40m to fill, with a fee for Sancho set to wipe out that defecit in one swoop.
Dortmund alredy appear to be planning for life without him, having secured a £22.5m deal for Birmingham City forward Jude Bellingham.
They beat off competition from the likes of United and rivals Bayern Munich to secure services of the 17-year-old.
Meanwhile, United could be looking to offload as many as six stars in the coming months in order to fund a deal for Sancho.
Alexis Sanchez and Chris Smalling are both currently out on loan and could be set for permanent moves away, while it appears Jesse Lingard no longer has a future at the club.

Phil Jones, Diogo Dalot and Marcos Rojo are also likely to be moved on.
