Tamera Mowry-Housley Shares Her Sentiments On The Black Lives Matter Movement — The Real Host Hopes It Extends Past Posts

Tia and Tamera grew up in a biracial household. Not long after Tia commented on the white privilege she witnessed her father receive, The Real hostess chimed in on the open conversation about the war on black lives in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

It’s common for there to be an uprising after an innocent black person loses their life due to police brutality. Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, and Sandra Bland are just some names that caused a public outcry.

Unfortunately, it tends to become nothing more than a trend after the ‘hype’ dies down and the hashtags are used. This is what Tamera hopes will finally stop happening.

Yes. I’m grateful to see all these posts speaking of how black lives matter. However, I pray it’s more than a black square or a post to you! It's about our actions. Yes, we all put our actions to service in different ways. But it’s about our daily actions. ⁣ ⁣ I believe prejudice/racism/discrimination in some ways are taught. It starts at home. How do we look at this from a parent's point a view? As parents, we have the responsibility to teach, to mold, to instruct, to do! But most importantly, BE the example. What kind of conversations are you having with your children? Yes, I am a product of an interracial marriage. My mom is black, and my dad is white. We visually saw the discrepancies and hurtful experiences of racism growing up. We had uncomfortable conversations about race, as young as eight years old, by the way.  Some people won’t like you because of your skin color. Don’t listen to them. They are idiots! Dad would say. Black is beautiful! Keep your head up. And don’t let anyone tell you different! Mom would say. It starts at home. It’s never too late to start NOW! We have the responsibility of molding the future. Do you realize the power in that?! #BLM

She took to Instagram to say: ‘Yes. I’m grateful to see all these posts speaking of how black lives matter. However, I pray it’s more than a black square or a post to you! It’s about our actions. Yes, we all put our actions to service in different ways. But it’s about our daily actions.’

She went on to talk about how to tackle things from a parental perspective with the paragraph written alongside a photo of her two children.

#tbt This is a photo of my beautiful mother. Growing up #biracial, mom is black and dad is white, it was very clear to me seeing the #privilege that my dad had as opposed to my #mother. Some examples, during our #sistersister days when traveling for work we would often fly first class. There were several times my mother was asked if she was in the right seat. Another incident that stood out for me was when we were buying our first home as a family. My mother walked in the house model with us asking for a brochure. A person had said the houses were sold out. My dad walked in and it was a different story. My #goal is to see #change. This year has been a tough year. Several tears have been shed. However, a friend told me these tears will not be wasted. The #love and #support around the world has kept me going. A #change is gonna come.

This comes after Tia shared an anecdote of how her white father was able to secure a home for them. The same home that her mother wasn’t even allowed to see.

Hopefully, Tamera’s words about the world changing — for good — come into fruition instead of fading back to where it used to be.
