Winona Ryder Accuses Mel Gibson Of Calling Her An ‘Oven Dodger’ For The Second Time

Mel Gibson, the Braveheart star, has found himself in trouble in the media once again. The New York Post picked up on comments from Winona Ryder in which she told a story of the time Mel Gibson made a “racist” joke about her.

Ryder said in a 2010 interview with GQ Magazine that Mel Gibson asked her if she was an “oven dodger” back in 1995. The star was discussing her experiences with antisemitism during a conversation with a British newspaper, and she brought up the allegations for the second time.

According to the Sunday Times, the 48-year-old actress claimed Mel Gibson and her and her friend were at a party together in 1995 and Gibson asked her if she was an “oven-dodger,” obviously in relation to the genocidal acts of Hitler’s regime in the 1940s.

She claimed the comment came in the midst of a discussion revolving around the Jewish faith. Moreover, she says that Gibson derisively referred to AIDS during their conversation with her gay friend. Ryder, in the past, has said that Mel attempted to apologize for his jokes.

Gibson’s spokesperson has said the opposite. In a statement to The New York Post, Gibson’s rep claimed the allegations were “100% untrue.” According to the rep, Winona was dishonest about it in 2010 and she’s not being truthful now either.

The rep also claimed that Mel Gibson never reached out to her to try and apologize either. He did, however, try to call her and ask her why she lied about the remarks, but he never got a callback.

Winona has talked about what she has perceived as anti-Semitism before. For instance, in the same interview, she claimed that a studio executive told her she looked “too Jewish” for the role of an aristocrat. As fans of Mel Gibson know, he was first accused of being an antisemite after he was pulled over in 2006.

The police stopped Mel Gibson while he was driving in Malibu, California, and the actor-director said to the police officer that the “Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.” He also called the female police officer, “sugar tits.”

Perhaps his most famous controversy was when tapes surfaced in which Gibson could be heard screaming at his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva. She claimed Mel assaulted her on a number of occasions.
