Lil Baby’s Album Goes To #1 On Billboard 200 After 3 Months

Billboard reported today that Lil Baby’s record, My Turn, went to the number one spot on the Billboard 200 three months after it was first released. Nielsen Music/MRC Data confirmed that the artist rose from previously held #3 position with 65,000 album units.

Thus far, it’s the album’s second week at number one, following its success when it first hit the charts on the 14th of March. For the following six weeks, the record was among the top six between the 21st of March and the 13th of June.

On the other hand, with the song only collecting 65,000 units, it marks the lowest tallying amount to score the coveted position in over a year. The last time a record made similar numbers and made it to the number one spot was Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

Reportedly, My Turn has managed to stay on top of the charts for the last few months, more importantly, on account of the lack of album releases from other big-name artists. In other words, it hasn’t had much competition.

Lil Baby has been receiving props from the black community for over a year now. For instance, this past year, Lil Baby managed to take home the award for Best New Artist at the BET awards. Reportedly, many were upset with the fact that Queen Nadja didn’t win.

Social media users took to their account to say that it should’ve been her to take home the accolade. Users stated that her career slowed down following the birth of her child. During the same award ceremony, Nipsey Hussle was commemorated by many big names in the industry.

The awards took place not long after the Victory Lap rapper died at the hands of the suspect, Eric Holder, who shot and killed him outside of his clothing store. Lauren London, Nipsey’s girlfriend at the time of his death and mother of his children, accepted the award in his honor.

While at the Microsoft Theater in LA, she said, “thank you guys for all the love and support.” Lil Baby joins the ranks of other up-and-coming artists of the last few years, including the similarly titled, DaBaby, and Roddy Ricch.
