#NEWS - Footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo's mum, sister, break silence after criminal charges are dropped against the footballer
Cristiano Ronaldo’s family have welcomed news he will not face criminal charges over an alleged Las Vegas r*pe.
The footballer’s doting mum Dolores Aveiro and sisters Katia and Elma have backed him since it emerged last year he was facing a new US police probe over Kathryn Mayorga’s claims he attacked her at a hotel in the city.
On Tuesday, after prosecutors said her allegations “cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt”, Dolores took to social media to insist she always knew Cristiano had never done anything wrong.
The mum-of-four, who has 1.9 million Instagram followers, posted a picture of her by a pool in a matching leopard-print top and trousers and said: “Face of serenity of someone who knows her children.”
She finished her comment with the hashtags ‘justica’ and ‘familia’ - Portuguese for ‘justice’ and ‘family’.
Cristiano’s sister Elma posted a screengrab of a Portuguese TV news report confirming Cristiano would not face charges alongside the message: “Divine justice takes its time but it never errs.”
Las Vegas police reopened the case last autumn after she claimed Ronaldo paid her £300,000 to buy her silence.
Five-times Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano, 34, always denied the allegations and responded to the new accusation by saying: “Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in.”
