Jennifer Lopez Opens Up About The ‘Hustlers’ Oscar Snub – Admits She Was ‘Sad’
Jennifer Lopez got a lot of attention for her movie, Hustlers but in the end, the highly regarded film ended up being snubbed at the Oscars in spite of everyone’s expectations. That being said, the actress, singer and dancer is now opening up about her reaction to the unexpected snub.
During her conversation with Oprah Winfrey at her Oprah’s 2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus event, J.Lo. admitted that she felt like she’d ‘let everybody down’ by not getting even a nomination at the Oscars for the critically acclaimed movie in which she starred.
However, that’s not to say she’s lost her confidence since Jennifer noted that she knows she is indeed a ‘good actress.’
When asked about the movie not getting even one nomination, she admitted that ‘I was sad, I was a little sad. It was a bit of a let down and I felt like my whole team — most of my team has been with me for 20, 25 years — I think they had a lot of hopes [for a nomination]. They wanted it, too. I felt like I let everybody down.’
She went on to argue that the media talking about the potential nomination so much did not help at all when in the end, Hustlers did not get it.
After all, ‘There was a lot of build up to it — I got so many good notices for it, more than ever in my career. There was a lot of like, ‘She’s gonna get nominated for an Oscar! It’s gonna happen! If she doesn’t you’re crazy!’ And I’m reading all the articles and thinking, ‘Oh my god, could it happen?’ And then it did not and I was like, ‘Ouch.’’
But she still learned something valuable from all of this and that is that she should never need so much approval from others to feel worthy and successful.
